A native New Yorker, Dr. Margaret Ullmann has cared for pets as a general practitioner at the Veterinary Center of East Northport since she and Dr. Gantt opened the hospital in 2004.
Dr. Ullmann has loved working with animals ever since she was a child and knew early on she wanted to become a veterinarian. She enjoys getting to know all of the families and pets that come into the hospital and finds diagnosing and treating pets to be both challenging and rewarding. There is nothing more gratifying for her than seeing pets leave the hospital healthy and happy.
She attended Union College, where she majored in Biology and German. Dr. Ullmann received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1982 and continued her education at Cornell University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Physiology (with a focus on reproductive physiology) in 1986. She went on to attend Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1990.
Dr. Ullmann has a wide range of professional interests but is particularly interested in reproductive medicine, dermatology, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, nutrition, and preventive care. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Association, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
When she’s not caring for pets at the Veterinary Center Dr. Ullmann enjoys numerous social activities with family and friends. Her hobbies include traveling, the arts, being outdoors, hiking & biking, resistance training, and yoga. Locally she enjoys dining out, state parks and trails & the Cinema Arts Centre. She has an avid interest in cooking, nutrition, health, and wellness. Currently, she enjoys the companionship of her German Shepherd Maxx and is looking forward to adding to her furry family!
Dr. Kenneth Gantt opened the Veterinary Center of East Northport with Dr. Margaret Ullmann in October 2004. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, and the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Gantt received his undergraduate degree in 1989 from Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. He then continued to Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, Dr. Gantt completed an internship in animal medicine and surgery at the University of Tennessee from 1993 to 1994.
Originally from Huntington, New York, Dr. Gantt has always had a love for taking care of animals. He remembers volunteering to take class pets home on weekends, holidays and summer vacations (even though his mom didn’t appreciate the boa constrictor in his bedroom). While living in Huntington, he worked in a small animal hospital and then, later on, had a summer internship at the Bronx Zoo.
Dr. Gantt loves fostering the long-term bond that develops over time between himself, his clients and their pets. He has many clients whose children he has known since they were very young. Those children have now grown up, started their own families, and have entrusted him with the care of their pets.
Dr. Gantt loves spending time with his wife and son during his free time. He also enjoys hanging out with friends, playing sports, outdoor activities, photography, and woodworking. Dr. Gantt has three pets: his pit bull rescue named Chaos, a cat Jax, and Toothless, a Bearded Dragon!
Dr. Andrea Barros joined the East Northport family in July of 2010. She graduated in 2004 from the New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in association with Syracuse University with a degree in Biology. She then furthered her education at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine where she became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2009.
Dr. Barros is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, and the New York State Veterinarian Association. She greatly values her ability to help animals who are sick and provide some relief to their pain. Dr. Barros loves providing comfort to animals and in turn, affect the lives of a family in a positive way by helping their beloved pets.
Her compassion for animals and her personal attention to her patients is a key part of what makes Dr. Barros an amazing veterinarian. She has two lovely pets, Jackie, a domestic shorthair cat who loves to play, and Arabella, a mixed-breed dog who loves treats and relaxing in the backyard. In her free time, Dr. Barros loves hiking, beach days, writing stories, creating art projects, antiquing, studying dendrology, reading/literature, exercising, and playing board games.
Dr. Marlies Piliero DVM joined the Veterinary Center of East Northport in September of 2010. Originally from Croghan, New York, she is a member of the New York State Veterinary Medical Association, the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and Phi Zeta (a national veterinary honors society). Dr. Piliero graduated from Cornell University in 2010 with degrees in Hotel Administration and Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Piliero loves working together with pet owners to customize the best path of testing, diagnosis, and treatment for their pet and family; building long-term relationships with clients and their pets in the process. Inspired by her father who was a large animal veterinarian, she grew up loving veterinary medicine. She spent her childhood on her family’s farm breeding and showing Holsteins.
In addition to caring for these animals on a daily basis, preparing the cows for show and taking them to the county and state fairs was always a highlight of her summer and great experience.
Despite her animal-caring background, Dr. Piliero did not initially set out to become a veterinarian. After completing her undergraduate degree, she worked as a market research consultant in Boston, Massachusetts for five years. This position allowed her to develop skills associated with team management, client service, task prioritization, and multi-tasking. Before long though, her love of animals led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
You can find Dr. Piliero spending time with family and friends, enjoying all the natural beauty Long Island has to offer. Her husband Andrew works in property management, and they have two sons, Trevor and Grant. In their house resides two cats Monkey and Buddy, and a dog named Rosie. The Piliero family is so happy to be a part of the local community since moving here in 2010.
Dr. Christine Ginley grew up in Massapequa Park here on the island surrounded by animals. Following her affinity for science, she received a bachelor’s degree in Organismal Biology from SUNY New Paltz and earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 2018. She became a member of the team at East Northport in 2022.
Dr. Ginley considers herself very lucky to be able to combine the challenge of medicine with her love for animals. She’s excited to have the opportunity to provide exceptional care and build strong relationships with pets and their owners in her home community.
When she’s not working, Dr. Ginley enjoys snowboarding, camping, hanging with friends and family, and trying new restaurants and breweries with her fiancé Nate. They share their home with two high-energy rescue dogs: Kota, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, and Jax, a 3-year-old shepherd mix. Like their human pack members, Jax and Kota love going on adventures and exploring new places!
