From even her earliest days Dr. Marlise Piliero's life has revolved around caring for animals. "My father was a large animal veterinarian in a small town in upstate New York with a population of about 600 and not a single traffic light," she says. "Growing up, his office was run out of our home so I was immersed in veterinary medicine throughout my childhood. In fact, I spent the first three years of my life in Ithaca while my dad completed his education at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine."

Adding to the influence of her father was life on the family's farm. "My family had a small farm and was involved in breeding and showing registered Holsteins," says Dr. Piliero. "In addition to caring for these animals on a daily basis, preparing the cows for show and taking them to the county and state fairs was always a highlight of the summer and great experience."

Despite all of these animal-related activities, Dr. Piliero did not initially set out to become a veterinarian. After high school, she entered the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration in May of 2000. For the next five years she worked as a market research consultant in Boston, Massachusetts, which allowed her to develop valuable skills associated with team management, client service, task prioritization, and multi-tasking.

Before long, though, her love of animals led Dr. Piliero to the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. In the spring of 2010 she graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine after being inducted into Phi Zeta, the national veterinary honors society. She joined the medical staff here at the Veterinary Center of East Northport in September of 2010.

Her areas of particular professional interest include endocrinology, cardiology, oncology and feline medicine. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Piliero and her husband Andrew, a rental property manager, are the very proud parents of Trevor Piliero born in June of 2010. The couple's animal family includes two domestic shorthaired cats named Monkey and Buddy. Dr. Piliero's personal interests include spending time with her family, taking walks, going to the beach, visiting local restaurants, and attending Broadway plays.
