Andrea C. Barros, DVM

Andrea C. Barros, DVM

Dr. Andrea Barros joined the Veterinary Center of East Northport in the summer of 2010. A general practitioner, she also has special interests in neurology and radiology.

Dr. Barros grew up in Huntington Station, New York, and began volunteering at animal shelters at a very young age. Many of the animals she cared for were strays or came from abusive environments. Since that time, she has always wanted to help improve the lives of animals and, subsequently, the lives of their owners. The most fulfulling moments for Dr. Barros are joyful reunions between owners and their pets after the pet has recovered from life-threatening illness or injury.

Dr. Barros graduated from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2004. During her studies in Environmental Biology, she earned an achievement award in wildlife field research and population management. Dr. Barros was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. During her internship, Dr. Barros gained experience in small animal emergencies as well as internal medicine, surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry and dermatology. Even before earning her DVM, she observed and volunteered at the Veterinary Center of East Northport, Long Island Veterinary Specialists, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Suffolk County Farm and Education Center.

She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.

Two cats, Jack and Isis, share her home along with Chester, a Chow Chow/Shepherd mix, and Sophie, a Chow Chow. When she's not at the Veterinary Center, Dr. Barros can be found hiking, kayaking, or swimming. She also has an interest in photography and reads suspense and thriller novels.
